WPA3

THE DEFINITION

A Wi-Fi security protocol family that improves authentication and encryption protections over earlier versions.

In simple terms

WPA3 is a newer way to protect wireless connections.

Technical explanation

WPA3-Personal uses Simultaneous Authentication of Equals; Enterprise deployments have different authentication and configuration requirements.

WPA3 improves wireless authentication and cryptographic protection, but deployment still requires current firmware, sound network configuration, and secure device enrollment. Compatibility modes may weaken the intended benefit.

Examples in practice

An office upgrades supported access points and devices to use WPA3 for staff Wi-Fi.

The office enables WPA3 for modern staff devices, keeps legacy equipment on a separate restricted network, and checks that the access points received security updates.

Why it matters

Secure configuration and current device software remain important even with newer Wi-Fi protections.
